Academia Surpacifico’s Travelling Classroom Program
Our partner school Academia Surpacifico offers a special course that combines Spanish lessons in four different destinations in Ecuador. The 'Travelling Classroom' program enables you to travel around the country while studying Spanish, ensuring you get a real insight into Ecuadorian culture and that you see as much of the country as possible during your stay. You will spend one week in each of the four destinations (selecting to go to either the Amazon or Cuenca for your second week), where you will receive 20 hours of group Spanish lessons and follow a program of activities.
Destinations
Week 1: Quito
Built on a former Incan capital, Quito is a city known for its cultural riches, with its old town being one of the first cities in the world to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Week 2 option A: Cuenca
Originally named Tomebamba (Valley of the Sun), Cuenca was the second largest Incan city and its cobbled streets are now lined with beautiful colonial houses and churches.
Week 2 option B: The Amazon
The Amazonian basin is spread over six Ecuadorian provinces, throughout which you will find thick forests and waterfalls, all surrounded by an incredible variety of flora and fauna.
Week 3: Manta
Manta is an authentic harbour town with a lively atmosphere and is popular with both locals and visitors for kitesurfing and scuba diving.
Week 4: Montañita
Originally a small fishing village, Montañita is a beach town with turquoise water, fantastic surfing waves and a great party scene.
The 'Travelling Classroom' program includes
20 standard group Spanish lessons per week
Accommodation
In Quito, Cuenca and Manta students stay in a single room with a host family, while in Montañita and the Amazon accommodation is provided in shared rooms in cabins (in Montañita there is the option to upgrade to a private room at an additional cost).
Certain meals
In Quito, Cuenca and Manta two meals a day are included in the program, the Amazon week is full board and the program in Montañita is self-catering.
Activities and excursions
Activities normally include visits to national parks, surfing, a trip to the 'Mitad del Mundo', trekking, visits to museums and places of archaeological interest, salsa lessons, snorkelling and cooking classes. The exact activity program is subject to change, depending on weather conditions and availability.
Travel between the four schools
Travel is included between the travelling classroom destinations. Students must make their own way to the first school and arrange a transfer back to the airport at the end of their studies. In each destination, students arrange their own travel between their accommodation, the school and the activities.
